Today we will be working with the presention tools of Glogster and Prezi.

Simply put, a Glog is a kind of poster —fully designed by you! A Glog is a unique creation made up of text, images, music and video. It can be colorful, emo, or rock—it’s up to you to make your Glog stand out. Glogs are a perfect way to express who YOU are!

Presentations have not evolved much in the 50 years since the slide was invented, but Prezi is changing that. Prezi lets you bring your ideas into one space and see how they relate, helping you and your audience connect. Zoom out to see the big picture and zoom in to see details.

Assignment #1: Create Login Accounts with both websites.

Assignment #2: Choose one of the presentation tools and create a project about something of interest to you.  See my examples on business classes.  Explore!  Make this your own creation.  Once you have your project complete add your finished product to your blog.

Present Yourself!

There's an app for that! Wednesday, May 4th

The word app is short for “application.”  Application in this case refers to a software application.  An app is not just any old software program — it’s a special type of software program.  An app typically refers to software used on a smartphone or mobile device such as the Android, iPhone, BlackBerry or iPad, as in “mobile app” or “iphone app.”  But the  phrase “Web app” or “online app” is also used in a business setting as an abbreviation for “Web application” or “online application” — meaning software that you access and use while online, via a browser, instead of software residing on your computer.

“Why should I care about apps?”  Two good reasons: (1) Web apps or online apps can be a faster, cheaper, more efficient way of deploying software in your business.  Rather than buying a software license, having to install it on your servers or local computers, keeping up with updates — all of which can be expensive and take time — you can simply go online and sign up for an account.  In a few minutes you are using the software.  And typically you pay a monthly fee, meaning that you don’t have to pay license fee up front.
(2) Mobile apps extend the reach and productivity of your business.  Once you equip your mobile device and/or your employees’ mobile devices with apps, then you and they can perform all sorts of business functions while out of the office traveling, on sales calls, making service calls, etc.

Apple has created a monster with over 65,000 different applications that are available for the iPhone, iPod touch, and the iPad.  With twenty categories of applications you are bound to find one that fits your needs.

Assignment: Choose five categories (they have to be five different ones - all the links under the Games headings are considered games) and choose one app (from each category) to write a post about.  So you will either have five separate posts or one post with five apps in it.  For each app tell me 1) the name; 2) a short description; 3) price; 4) category; 5) customer's ratings.

Ms. Wilson is gone today to a conference.  Mrs. James will be your sub.

We are again going to be working in Go! Animate (see the link at the bottom of the last post).  I know we had some difficulty with some of the features, but be patient.  You will have the ENTIRE block to work on this project.

Assignment: Create an animated video using various scenes and other aspects of Go! Animate.  Topic of the video: Internet Safety (cyber bulling, what to/not to put on your Facebook, chat rooms, etc.)
*Make sure to: Use adequate scenes to cover content.  Change backgrounds (don't use the same one for every scene).  Use different people.  Add Props.  THE POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESS!

To get credit you must copy the embed of your Safety Video and put it in a post on your blog.  Make sure that you are in the Edit HTML tab when posting the code...otherwise it will only show the code in your post (I want to see the video).  I could be that you won't be able to see/play the video...that's okay it doesn't mean other people can't from outside of school.

GO! ANIMATE - Bringing our words to life.

*When we first log on to the site we will have to register so that we are able to save our videos.

*The best way to learn a new tool is to explore or use a tutorial, Go! Animate has their very own tutorial that you need to go through to introduce you to the site.

*Once you are done with the tutorial go ahead and take the time to create your own character.  This Peepz you create should make an appearance in your video.

**Assignment for today: Find a school appropriate knock knock joke.  Create an animated video to display on your blog (copy the embed code and put it in a post or as a gadget on the side).

**Activity Checklist: 1) Tutorial, 2) Create a character, 3) Assignment

Wednesday, April 13th

Using the tools that we have explored...Google Maps, Google Docs, and Google Search you are going to plan your dream vacation.

Using Google Docs, plan a trip itinerary for five days of exploration of a city or cities of your choice.

The Itinerary should include:
**Pictures - Take a screen shot (command + shift + 4) of your map and insert it as a picture; and at least two pictures of places you plan to visit

**Place to Stay (different city might mean a different place to stay)- include cost, name of place, and some additional features (breakfast, wi-fi, swimming pool)

**Attractions to Visit (at least two a day) - a few examples are amusement parks, museums, historical landmarks, things that interest you

**Places to Eat (one for each meal) - include name of place and type of food

**Times - because this is an itinerary that means it is a rough plan of times and dates that you would visit these places

You should be working the entire class period so take some time to really look for places to visit.  This project will tie into our assignment for Friday.  In order to get credit for this assignment you will have to share your itinerary document with me, send me an invite using my e-mail: jwilson0828@gmail.com

Tinychat and Google Talk

Today we had several computers going to explore video chat - utilizing Tinychat.com

http://tinychat.com/dawnjames - Mrs James Room

Password protect your chat sessions so that not just anyone can join your group.

Google Talk - you can only video chat with one person at a time.   You can chat with video or just your voice.

Chat within Gmail, iGoogle, and orkut

Google Talk

Make a telephone call right from  your computer with Google Talk!
I LOVE GOOGLE TALK - I can sit right at my desk and make a phone call! I no longer have to worry about not being able to make a long distance phone call while at work.  Yes of course I could use my cell phone (as my husband keeps reminding me), but what is the fun in that! Students had fun calling their parents - however, this application IS NOT downloaded on the students' computers - otherwise there could be major issues with students calling everyone - as you could imagine.

Google talk is an online application allowing users to communicate through voice calls as well as instant message receipts. Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) is the convention allowing transmission of voice through the internet. Google Talk connects people all around the world and this is a free application.
